Please note that this site is not intended to infringe on any copyrights held by James Rado, Galt MacDermot, the Estate of Gerome Ragni, or any other copyright holders connected to the original musical Hair. It is merely a devoted fan's well-intentioned attempt to craft a faithful, definitive screen adaptation of the original musical, and to present an alternative to the disliked 1979 film more in the spirit of the original.

Without the permission of the show's creators, and whoever else holds the film rights, all fans please understand that it is illegal to publicly and/or commercially exploit any screenplay resulting from this endeavor. The only reason I am able to squeak by with this blog and the idea of writing a screenplay itself is that this isn't a commercial venture, and in the same manner that students may pick any scene they want from any play or film to perform in an acting class, which constitutes fair use under Section 107 of the Copyright Act of 1976, I am able to talk freely about its development on the blog and occasionally quote material, in particular with regard to pasting together material from various Hair sources, because it falls under the terms of "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use.

With regard to fair use laws, however, this means that any actual finished screenplay will not be published here or elsewhere online, but will be provided privately (presumably by e-mail) to anyone who follows this blog, especially the creators of the show, if they wish to see what one fan would want in a film of Hair, provided that nobody performs excerpts from it in YouTube clips, etc.

Whatever the legal stance, at all times I retain the copyright to my adaptation. Any resulting screenplay is my property insomuch as I adapted it, came up with the framework and some of the creative ideas, etc., and any use of my material without permission would be most unadvised.
